Instructions
1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warmed water, warm milk, maple syrup, and salt. Whisk until the starter has resolved into the liquid.
2. Add the flour and while using the dough hook attachment turn on the stand mixer to allow ingredients to combine. While this is mixing add the melted butter at this time. Mix until it dough craters to pull off the bowl and onto the hook forming a ball.
3. Once it has pulled remove it from the hook and cover it with a clean cloth, and allow it to rise at room temperature until it has doubled in size.
4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Assembly
1. Weigh out 15-17g balls of dough per pig. Roll out the sourdough blanket dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
2. If desired, place a thin slice of your favorite cheese on top of each mini cocktail sausage. This adds an extra layer of flavor and gooey goodness.
3. Wrap each mini sausage (with or without cheese) snugly in a piece of sourdough dough. Place them seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
4. Cover them with a clean cloth and let sit for 2 hours to raise.
5. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the sourdough blankets are golden brown and cooked through.
6. Serve these sourdough pigs in a blanket warm, with your favorite dipping sauces like mustard, ketchup, or hot sauce.
Get ready to enjoy a symphony of flavors and textures with our Sourdough Pigs in a Blanket. The crispy, golden sourdough exterior perfectly complements the savory cocktail sausages, and if you've added cheese, the result is simply heavenly. This recipe is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, making it a fantastic addition to your repertoire of party snacks and finger foods.
